The Spoken Word

Our Director, Phil Pearce, is extremely passionate about Spoken Word and believes it’s a brilliant tool to use.

It has become a real passion of his and he always uses it as part of any campaign. He is heavily involved in his local community and is always pushing poetry out to larger audiences. Although he is only in his third year of performing, Phil has performed in 22 cities and even has a video with over 25 thousand views. He regularly runs workshops in recovery buildings, prisons and schools

Creativity plays a part in everything that Life Experience plan and Spoken Word is usually at the centre of that. Whether it’s getting young people to write their own, using lines of poetry to provoke conversation, creating videos to match words used, putting life stories on paper or just delivering pieces of emotional spoken word to really highlight an issue.

Life Experience were invited to a PRU where we were told that we would probably only be there an hour as the young people there lose interest quite easily.

The morning started with 4 members of Life Experience with completely different pasts all talking a bit about their own experiences. After two hours of back and forth engagement, mixed in with some spoken word, the young people asked if we could stay till after lunch and help them write their own life stories in poetry. So we did and we ended up staying there the entire day.

Life Experience will always be relevant because we will always find someone with lived experience to run projects on new subjects that come up in the future and it will always be an opportunity to create a new spoken word piece too.
